Overview

Role: Design Lead

Partners: Junior designers, Product Managers, Engineering, Business Unit, Regional Markets

One may not immediately think of the need for a migration or onboarding flow when they think “Payments”. However, the reality is that any time money movement is involved there are intense regional laws and regulations that the payment intermediator must follow.

The goal of the migration flow this includes collecting certain information from sellers and businesses so we can verify their identity.

User group

The focus for this flow was B2C (Business to Consumer) sellers who already had an account on eBay, but need to move over to Managed Payments

User Problem

As a large seller or business, I want to be able to move over to Managed Payments easily, but still understanding what is happening.

Platform

Typically, I like to start with mobile, but during user research we found and interesting insight: our business sellers preferred to get all of their paperwork in order and site down at a desk to complete.

Mapping out the experience

The Layout

The pages in the migration flow use a 2 column layout that is broken into 3 sections:

Progress

This lets the user know where they are in the process and what else to expect.

Body

The body contains the meat of the page. It is where the seller will provide any required information, along with brief instructions need to provided that information.

Right rail

The right rail holds only supplemental information. None of it is needed to complete the task at hand, but it’s stuff that can help complete the task at hand if there are issues.
